First non-traditional cake

cake next to the real thing. i found an older model online.. haha.
I made this cake for my roommate's birthday. He's a DJ so his gf requested a turntable. i googled it and this is what i made. its not as clean as i would have liked but i think for my first try, it turned out pretty well. i also didnt have a proper board to put the cake on, so its on a cheapy aluminum foil tray that i had. i hope it was tasty - chocolate chip yellow cake.

first entry part 2 - i forgot one

This is the Ariel cake I made for one of my best friends Jennifer's birthday. i free handed and again used the pointillism thing. You can't really tell, but the right side of Ariel's hair was falling off the cake after a rough car ride from Chino to San Diego.

first entry - part 2: Cakes so far

First cake I made after my first day in the Wilton Cake decorating course. we used the buttercream frosting and learned the pointillism type technique with the star tip. My instructor let me do what ever, so i free handed this penguin =]
Second cake. We learned borders and how to make the frosting clowns. i have a hard time getting rid of all my cakes so i then to make them for the nearest occasion. This was a strawberry cake for my good friend Dennis's birthday. (duh)
I made this cake for Jason's little brother's birthday. the character is a guy named 'rock lee' from naruto. I'm not really a fan and neither is Jason's brother, but we're convinced he looks JUST like him. this is in the same style as the other cake, buttercream, freehand, and star tip.
This is Jason's brother. TELL ME he doesnt look like Rock Lee. Even his aunt said, hey the cake looks just like Michael! she doesn't know the joke.
For this cake, we were learning buttercream frosting roses. i made paulina eat the whole thing. the design is similar/very much like a wilton design.
I made this to try and practice piping. it was red velvet and delicious.
for my grandma's bday(duh). I used a basic buttercream frosting and those are royal icing violets and chrysanthemums. I also used a rope border.
this was our course 2 finale cake. again, buttercream, basket weave frosting, rope border, royal icing flowers - chrysanthemums, violets, daisies, daffodils, apple blossoms, and something else i forget.
but this cake was too happy, so we made it emo. haha.
This is my first fondant cake. It was a 3 tiered lemon rasberry cake. the design happened as a happy accident because i didnt know where i was going when i originally started. Paulina ate 1/3 of it and it molded. haha... it was too big.
This is my easter cake up close. I made it for jason's second family. there are royal icing flowers, fondant decorations, and fondant flowers and animals.
this is the overall view.

I hope you enjoyed this. more to come!
